Classical
Mandolin Players
|
On this page you can find some important classical mandolin players. I have mainly added players that I know, or that have influenced me in some way.
Mandolin players in bluegrass, folk and jazz can be found on this page.
Takashi Ochi came to Germany in the 70s, I think he was the first Japanese mandolin player who was invited to germany. He played with the German Zupforchestra under Siegfried Behrend. He decided to stay in Germany and was for many years one of the leading mandolin players in Germany.
That was the time when I learned to play the mandolin Takashi Ochi has recorded many records as soloist - including the mandolin concertos by Antonio Vivaldi - and those records were the first records with classical mandolin music that I listened to.
I have
met Takashi Ochi several times and had also some lessons while I was
learning conducting at the Bundesakademie in Trossingen. I could also
play with him in the Deutsches Zupforchester and in the Badisches
Zupforchester.
Takashi is a very friendly person, and it has alwas been a joy to meet him. Today he has his own Sushi-Restaurant in Mannheim: Kaoru

I have played together with Klaus for many years in the Badisches Zupforchestra.
