Zum Glück hatte ich einen Export der Daten und habe daraus diese Tabelle gebastelt.

There is also a rather lengthy entry about Ellis in Philip Bone'sThe Guitar and Mandolin. Basically, Ellis was born in London 1865 and died at age 38 in 1903. He started out on banjo and wrote a tutor for that first. Bone says the mandolin tutor was first published in 1892. He also says that Ellis pieces were prized for their simplicity and very playable for beginners. |

concert
mandolinist, teacher, and composer. He was born on 13 February 1874 in
the town of Isernia, Italy. Young Giuseppe started to study the
mandolin with Camille Mastropaolo at a very early age. After the
Pettine family emigrated to the USA in 1889 and had settled in
Providence, Rhode Island, Giuseppe was soon regarded as a child prodigy
of the mandolin because of his great concert appearances.[citation
needed] Raffaele Calace (1863 - 1934) dedicated his First Mandolin
Concerto op. 113 to Pettine, his fellow countryman and friend, in honor
of his skills and passion for the mandolin.[citation needed] Pettine is probably best remembered as the mandolinist of and composer/arranger of many composition for The Big Trio Reprise, a trio formed by the guitarist William Foden, the banjoist Frederick Bacon and Giuseppe Pettine on mandolin, but with the publication of his mandolin method in 1896 he also became renowned as a national teacher of the Italian mandolin technique. With his talent as a teacher and his comprehensive six-volume tutorial for the mandolin he created a fine school of American mandolinists among whom were William Place Jr. (1889 - 1959), known as ‘Americas Greatest Mandolin Virtuoso’, and Alfonso Balasone (Albert Bellson, 1897 - 1977). Today the Pettine method is still regarded as one of the most comprehensive works for mandolin ever published. |

dieses
Instrument. Er kam 1805 zum Münchener Kaim-Orchester und gab nebenbei
Mandolinen- und Gitarrenunterricht. Albert verlegte seine Kompositionen
(ua. „10 Compositions Favories pour Mandolin“) über den
Musikalienhändler Schmidl aus Triest, welches damals noch zu Österreich
gehörte. Albert dürfte über Schmidl Kontakte zu einigen Triester
Mandolinen- und Gitarrespielern, wie Silvio Negri (1865-1936) und
Giovanni Battista Marzutti (1863-1943) erhalten haben, welche ebenfalls
Mandolinenquartette komponierten. Später gab Albert die „Neue Mandolinenschule - Leichte – mittelschwere romantische Duos für Mandoline und Gitarre“ in Leipzig heraus und lobt das Klangbild des Quartetts: „Das vollkommenste ist eigentlich ein Quartett, bestehend aus Mandoline I, Mandoline II, Mandola und Gitarre“. Albert gründete 1898 mit seinen Schülern ein Mandolinenensemble mit zirka 20 Mitgliedern, das „Circolo Mandolinistico lombardo di Monaco“. Ab 1900 wurde Albert auch für die Ausführung der anfallenden Mandolinen- und Gitarrenteile am Münchner Hof- und Residenz-Theater herangezogen. 1912 erschien Alberts erstes Lehrwerk für Mandoline, die „Neue Mandolinenschule“ mit dem Vermerk „Für den Selbstunterricht besonders geeignet“. In München galt Heinrich Albert als der kompetente Fachmann für die Mandoline. Nach dem Ende des Ersten Weltkrieges begann er,ab 1919 seine Werke im Verlag Julius Heinrich Zimmermann zu veröffentlichen. Es befanden sich darunter auch zwei Hefte mit dem Titel „Mandolinen-Orchester, Unterhaltungsstücke in leichter Spielart“. Das letzte Werk Alberts für die Mandoline dürfte die 1938 erschienene Schule „Der junge Mandolinist“ eine „Elementarschule für den ersten Anfang“ gewesen sein. Es war dies das erste Lehrwerk, welches sich gezielt an junge Schüler richtet. |

Method for Solo Mandolin in Duo-Style, from Entry Level to Artist Level, San Gabriel, CA: Evan J. Marshall, 2004. Marshall’s book is effective and pedagogically sound. The technique that he describes (and that he, himself uses) is a bit different than the “classic duo style” of the early 20th century players but quite impressive (at least in his hands). A bonus is the CD that demonstrates the exercises and compositions. Of interest to some: Marshall’s is the only book on this list that includes tablature (along with standard notation). Serious players in duo style, or many other styles for that matter, should learn to read notation. It simply isn’t that hard and the benefits far outweigh the frustrations. |

J'ai découvert l'instrument il y a bien longtemps avec Laurent Vercambre, j'ai ensuite effectué des stages avec les français Mick Larie, Pierre Bensusan, Christian Séguret, et les américains David Grisman, Wendy Miller. C'est devenu mon instrument principal, et il y a longtemps qu'une méthode me trotte dans la tête. Objectif, à peu près réalisé : une présentation de l'instrument avec photos, des conseils d'achat et d'entretien ; des tableaux d'accords ; des conseils pour jouer bien avec un joli son. Puis des exercices d'entraînement progressif, et des séries de tablatures de folk et de bluegrass, en PDF, avec le son en MIDI. Je n'exclus pas d'y ajouter un jour des enregistrements, audio (mp3), voire vidéo (flv). Comme pour la guitare, je propose cette méthode en freeware.
